Fishing with my daughter 30.7 2012

Today was a very special day for me,I have had many friends with me out at water which have been very nice but this was something special, this time it was not only a friend,it was my younger daughter Maria who went out at water with me.
Maria is the one to blame for my new coming in fishing after twenty years pause.

Just like when I was kid I fished a lot with my dad Maria fished a lot as a kid,at those time with my brother and she managed to get me too interested in fishing again and not too long before we fished almost every weekend together, gee, man we had fun.

Just like me she became a teenager and different interests stepped into her life like friends, partying and....well,you know :)...Things that put fishing in background.

As I told you it took over twenty years for me to find the joy in fishing again and it might take at least twenty years before my daughter find the complete joy of it again
but anyhow, today we went out for fishing together after at least 2-3 years pause.

Have to say that even if she´s young,15 years old and haven´t fish for a while I immediately noticed that she hasn´t lost the touch in not fishing or handle the fish.
Even if she´s young she is a pretty experienced fisher with a lot of decent sized fishes caught both with spin and fly.

Well, today´s fishing was more about to spend some time together then to fish.
The weather was crap for fishing.9 am it was over twenty degrees warm, three maybe four m/s wind from southwest.Forecasts warned for heavy thunder and wind flurry that could be over 20 m/s so we decided not to go too far from the shore, just in case.

Against all odds one the first spot, third or fourth cast my rod had a heavy bend and because of the watertemp I gave an extra heavy pressure to the fish and twenty seconds later I landed a beauty measured 86 cm:s,did not take the weight of it so I could release it quicker.
Some time after that I had a small bugger following my lure but just behind the boat he lost his interest and turned away.
I was sooooo much hoping for my daughter to land a fish but that was to happen on our third spot,a angry little bugger in maybe one-one and a half kilos was released without taking pics or measure.

Not much more to tell you about, the weather turned even warmer later on so no big surprise that there was too many hits on our lures and when those dark clouds from the horizon came closer we decided not to take any risks and turned our boat back to the shore.
Even if we did not landed too many fishes it´s been a while since I have enjoyed a fishing trip this much, hopefully we can do it again soon.

More Lurebuilding.

Have made some more homemade both spinner and chatterbaits now and have to say that they work as fine as those I´ve bought ready made.

Have fished the last trips only using homemade baits.it´s more funny to get fishes with them.Especially the first one I made have been the one that has "made my day" It has caught many pikes and still going strong.

These are easy to build when you got all parts. Many thank´s to Lureparts from Netherlands and Lundgrens from Sweden, both on-line shops works just fine.
I have also learn from some mistakes like using normal flashbou is not as good as magnum flash.
Also using normal flytying materials is okay as long as you remember that you don´t doing them too long. The firetiger above is cutted two inches shorter now,the tail no longer mess up with the upper blade as it used to do.

And today I finally got a mold of my own so hoping that I soon will be able to do the heads by myself.
Still got some issues about where I will be able to do the casting and painting but hopefully it will soon be solved out.

And finally to my homemade chatterbaits.I´m not totally satisfied with how they work, they have delivered some pikes but I had bigger expectations bout these and still believing them so they will get more chances every time I´m out at the sea.

Have been out fishing a lot but not much to tell you about I´m afraid. Some fishes now, some fishes then,+100 cm/7.4 kg:s the biggest so far this season.

the weather has been difficult lately,Thunder and heavy rain with hardly no wind at all or windy and sunny weather.Today´s weather looked fine,I wasn´t able to go fishing but my brother was at the sea for the whole day with his friend, the result was only three landed pikes and they were all caught in the two first hours.

Tomorrows weather doesn´t seem much better:+25 degrees/wind 7 m/s Sunny...
Think I will wait till the weekend, hopefully I have something in catchway to write about

Lurebuilding.

It has been a strange summer so far, cold, windy and rainy including a few very hot ordinary summerdays, but hey I´m not complaining, not at all because the fishing has been pretty good, not the size maybe but the number.
A thing that I have noticed is that the pikes still hiding on windy places deep among the waterplants, usually I have found them in deeper water among rocks this time of year but not now.

And another thing that feels a bit strange is that I have not fished much with flies either, all because of those windy days.instead I have found fishing with spinnerbaits and chatterbaits very nice and effective among weed.
I need to remind you that I have not forgot flyfishing for pike, just waiting for water to cool down a bit.
My newest acquaintance in fishing is chatterbaits, think it will become a big success here in Scandinavia.

but as with the spinnerbaits their durability hasn´t been as good as I have expected so the only solution has been to build them by yourself.
Thanks to internet it has been easy to find different sites where you can buy parts.
I´m waiting for a delivery from Netherlands to arrive in these days and one from Sweden too so with the chatterbaits I made a solution to dismantle the old skirts and tie new ones.
I don´t have pics of the original but It´s a Finnish bait called Rento.

Number one.

And number two.

And of course I had to test to build a Spinnerbait too.On my last trip it worked very well.

Tested Svartzonker Rintin and....three casts, one pike around five kilos and...

Works well but the durability, nothing to worry about if you carrying a lot of spareparts with you.

Have to say that Pearsons grinder is the only one that hasn´t broke yet,and my homemade too is unbroken so far,the wire is a bit thicker and I´m trying to use only quality materials and securing every tie with UV-resin.

And here is the latest Spinner which will be tested tomorrow if the weather is fine(rain and wind).

This is kind weather I hope for.

Spin,spin spinnerbaits.

Hello everyone.Sorry for no posts lately but there has been different things in my way lately like to get a new job starting from first August in a small school away from that noisy city so one dream more fulfilled.
And fishing then ? Strong winds has been the main reason that there has been almost no flyfishing at all, also the pikes lying deep in among waterplants far away from any flies.
But I wanted badly go fishing so what could possible be the solution ?
the answer is : Spinnerbaits.

Have used them a lot this summer and will probably go on until the water cool down again, then I will change back to flies again.

Spinnerbaits have been extremely effective this summer, have landed a lot of fishes and have to admit it has been kind fun to learn something new.
Talk about learning something reminds me of a thing, spinnerbait fishing has become a boom in Finland and I have noticed some issues here : durability of different lures.

Paying almost 20 € for a spinner makes at least me to insist that it will hold out for more than two !!! trips

That´s Lindy M/G.Without superglue here you would probably do your next trip with a blank jig with blades...Not good.

Lindy M/G:s blade, our water in Finland is not that salty that the blade should look like that after two trips,it´s easy to change but still I think it´s unacceptable.

well on the other side...it fish extremely well, have caught many fishes with them.

Bought the first one years ago from Sweden but tested it just once and decided that you can not catch anything with these, how wrong I was :)))
This year I landed a nice pike with my third cast.

One spinnerbait that has been particularly good is Savagears Da bush, had to buy a new one after the first was teared apart of at least fifty pikes, only wish with this model could be a bigger size.

Have tried other manufactures too like Pearsons Grinder which has been good, still waiting for the big one to come with it´s massive 8/0 and 7/0 hooks.
With a magnum size jig tail it´s impressive 33 cm:s long which will keep the size of caught pikes decent.

Also noticed that some good looking and famous manufactures has some solutions that I don´t like, like the skirt on the PIG.

A cable tie...won´t probably last for long without a new fastening.
A good lure anyway.

And the newest family member : Svartzonker Rintin,if it works like his jerkbaits it will be a success.

Here´s some random photos from my latest trips.
