Lurebuilding.

It has been a strange summer so far,cold,windy and rainy including a few very hot ordinary summerdays,but hey I´m not complaining,not at all because the fishing has been pretty good,not the size maybe but the number.
A thing that I have noticed is that the pikes still hiding on windy places deep among the waterplants,usually I have found them in deeper water among rocks this time of year but not now.

And another thing that feels a bit strange is that I have not fished much with flies either,all because of those windy days.instead I have found fishing with spinnerbaits and chatterbaits very nice and effective among weed.
I need to remind you that I have not forgot flyfishing for pike,just waiting for water to cool down a bit.
My newest acquaintance in fishing is chatterbaits,think it will become a big success here in Scandinavia.

but as with the spinnerbaits their durability hasn´t been as good as I have expected so the only solution has been to build them by yourself.
Thanks to internet it has been easy to find different sites where you can buy parts.
I´m waiting for a delivery from Netherlands to arrive in these days and one from Sweden too so with the chatterbaits I made a solution to dismantle the old skirts and tie new ones.

And of course I had to test to build a Spinnerbait too.On my last trip it worked very well.



Tested Svartzonker Rintin and....three casts,one pike around five kilos and...



Works well but the durability,nothing to worry about if you carrying a lot of spareparts with you.

Have to say that Pearsons grinder is the only one that hasn´t broke yet,and my homemade too is unbroken so far,the wire is a bit thicker and I´m trying to use only quality materials and securing every tie with UV-resin.

Hello everyone.Sorry for no posts lately but there has been different things in my way lately like to get a new job starting from first August in a small school away from that noisy city so one dream more fulfilled.
And fishing then ? Strong winds has been the main reason that there has been almost no flyfishing at all,also the pikes lying deep in among waterplants far away from any flies.
But I wanted badly go fishing so what could possible be the solution ?
the answer is : Spinnerbaits.

Have used them a lot this summer and will probably go on until the water cool down again,then I will change back to flies again.

Spinnerbaits have been extremely effective this summer,have landed a lot of fishes and have to admit it has been kind fun to learn something new.
Talk about learning something reminds me of a thing,spinnerbait fishing has become a boom in Finland and I have noticed some issues here : durability of different lures.

Paying almost 20 € for a spinner makes at least me to insist that it will hold out for more than two !!! trips

Lindy M/G:s blade,our water in Finland is not that salty that the blade should look like that after two trips,it´s easy to change but still I think it´s unacceptable.

well on the other side...it fish extremely well,have caught many fishes with them.





Bought the first one years ago from Sweden but tested it just once and decided that you can not catch anything with these,how wrong I was :)))
This year I landed a nice pike with my third cast.

One spinnerbait that has been particularly good is Savagears Da bush,had to buy a new one after the first was teared apart of at least fifty pikes,only wish with this model could be a bigger size.



Have tried other manufactures too like Pearsons Grinder which has been good,still waiting for the big one to come with it´s massive 8/0 and 7/0 hooks.
With a magnum size jig tail it´s impressive 33 cm:s long which will keep the size of caught pikes decent.



Also noticed that some good looking and famous manufactures has some solutions that I don´t like,like the skirt on the PIG.



A cable tie...won´t probably last for long without a new fastening.
A good lure anyway.



And the newest family member : Svartzonker Rintin,if it works like his jerkbaits it will be a success.

Summer news including fishing.

Have been on vacation now for two weeks and that´s why there haven´t been any postings,still got one week to go.

I have been visiting some of our beautiful villages here in southern Finland.
Was first at a place called Porvoo or Borgå in Swedish just walking in the older parts of the town,i just love these old buildings and streets,yeah,the whole atmosphere is so incredible.
Small stores with old cool stuff to buy,this painting almost changed owner but the price wasn´t right....for now,we will see after couple of days.



Was just sitting on terrace drinking coffee and relaxing.

And hey,I´m a man and of course I´m at least a little bit interested in cars and looking at this French elegance I have to say that older cars just got the look :)



After this I just couldn´t stay away from water and went out fishing but the weather was just crap for fishing:sunny but very windy.
Tried flyfishing but it was just pain in the ass,all fishes lying deep inside among water plants,impossible to catch with flies so I used spinner baits instead and immediately I started to get fishes.

I had one amazing day out at sea catching over twenty pikes and two more days with over ten pikes each.





And of course the almost traditional "pikewound"on my right thumb.



There was blood all over.







And as a cherry on the top of the cake,do you remember my sunburn from my last post?
This time I put a jacket on but a little bit too late....



I could live with that but there was more to come...

Well today the sun didn´t made any problems at all.

I started 4.30 from home driving to the shore in a heavy rain and a wind probably around 10 to 13 m/s so i left once again my flyrod home in a corner waiting for better times.
Down at the shore I put my rain clothes on and somehow I had a good feeling,can´t describe it but I had a strong feeling that this could be a good day.
Went out from the shore to the first spot and not long before someone bended my rod,felt immediately it was a small one,not that the size is important but it would be nice to battle with some big fat lady now after maybe hundred of those small greedy buggers.
My first fish for the season was still the biggest so far,88 cm catched on fly.
I got me some fishes now and then and soon I decided to change the place to a spot that I yesterday thought it could be good.



because the wind was blowing from behind I had to throw the anchor to avoid floating away.
I split the area in three pieces and from this first place I immediately caught a 82 cm fish full of rage and energy,nice start.
Had some smaller pikes from the same place.



Had some problems to get a chin grip with this one so I decided to use my landing net to avoid more stress and get it quickly released.



After a while I decide to go to the second area and try my luck over there.

Four or five casts and a 88 cm/4.46 kg was landed but suddenly after some smaller pikes,nothing,absolutely nothing and after thirty minutes I was thinking should I skip the third area and try to find fishes somewhere else.
while I was thinking of the situation suddenly a strong wind flurry made the anchor release from the bottom and I start to drift closer to the third section and one problem solved itself.

Started to fish the third area with no result and was ready to give up when I suddenly felt something at the other end of the line,well....a small bugger but now I knew there at least were fishes around.

made a cast deep inside the weed and....SHIT,bottom...started to rip the spinnerbait away when I felt that someone attacked it,it was a ruthless,determined attack,it has to be a bigger one.
it was a hell to get it away among those waterplants but somehow I managed to do it and after a heavy but nice fight I was able to land my biggest pike for the season so far,7.4 kg:s,don´t have the length yet,dropped my measure in the sea so I marked it on my rod,very close to 100 cm:s anyway.



God that felt good!!! Wish I had have it on a fly but there will come more chances later on.

Before I tell anything about fishing I´ll just have to say:FUCK YOU FORECAST MAKERS !!!!!

Forecast: Wind southwest 3-5 m/s,cloudy ---> Wind southwest at least 10 m/s !!!! sunny.Over 3 ft.high waves crowned with whitecaps
From now on I won´t even check any forecasts anymore,just a waste of time.Rather take a look out from window and then decide if it worth go out fishing.
I have so many times been disappointed and pissed of caused by those worthless clowns having their lottery about next days weather so I decided that it´s enough.

Well,back to more pleasant things like fishing.
Decided to take a trip to Lovisa with flyfishing for pike on my mind but as soon i stepped out I noticed that flyfishing could be a big challenge today so i took also my jerkbait stuff with me,it was a long time ago since I used them.

While I was driving east I felt slightly irritated because of the wind which was hmmm....let´s call it fresh.
I stopped at a gas station to get some fuel and decided to also have a cup of coffee in a try to calm down a bit.I hate to be grumpy of things that I absolutely can´t do anything about.
Thank god the coffee was good and was served by a nice and friendly lady so my mood slowly but surely rise to almost normal level and a new plan was growing in my head,Im gonna fish with jerkbaits today and I´m gonna go for the big guns.
Down at the shore I still decide to take my flyrod with me,just in case.while driving I had made decisions for some spots to fish with jerkbaits(shoot me if you feel for it but in one way it´s pretty nice to not have to worry of the winds if it´s even possible to fish).

It started pretty well,not many casts and the first one was landed but a big gun......not even close,max 50 cm (my bait was 24 cm)a greedy bugger...
Landed three pikes on the first spot but I don´t know where all big mam´s has gone,I didn´t bother measure any of them,released them in the water.



Had a coffee break and moved to the second spot but while I was driving there I suddenly had a feeling that this is a place worth trying to and with my first cast I landed not a big but at least the biggest of this trip,maybe 70 cm,didn´t measure this either.
Fished some more spots but not much to tell you about,just some small buggers now and then,every fish was landed on the windy side,all with that same Svartzonker bait.
After some hours it was time to take a lunch break.found a sheltered bay,anchor my boat and jumped on the ground and put some fire and eat some bacon wrapped sausages,yammy.....
Coffee and back on board and.....should I give it a try here in this bay? Why not,first it was meant that i should rig my flyrod but felt too lazy for that so I continued with the same jerkbait and not too many casts and once again I landed a small bugger.



Fished a while after that but lost the focus in what I was doing so I stopped fishing and slowly set my direction at home with mixed feelings.
It was nice to be out fishing and not have to think about the wind,you can always use a jerkbait,on the other hand I would have prefer flyfishing but....this time it was jerkbait fishing and hopefully flyfishing next time.

Back to reality and some new ties

As I expected I had to get my feet back on ground at my last trip out to our beautiful archipelago,four hours and three landed fishes and surprisingly only one dropped fish,fished with normal flies tied on hooks.

There has not been much of fishing lately because of very hard winds lately,one day up to 19 m/s so if I would have gone fishing I could for sure have forget about flyfishing.
But I have not been lacy,have done a lot of things that should have been done a long time ago like my sauna maintenance for example,have been so "busy" there have not been time to fix or repair things here at home but it had to be done so.....

I mean..things like this are driving me crazy:



A screwdriver and ten seconds time ---> fixed.How lacy can a man get?
And why stop when you get your engine running,fixed the whole sauna inclusive an in-depth cleaning.







Enough with homework for a while,as I wrote in my last post the new tie worked very well and of course I had to tie some more of them too,and BTW I´m working on a SBS of it so if you are interested stay tuned.

Small breeze blowing just from the right direction so this should be the right spot tomorrow.
